Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a diagnostic imaging test that uses strong magnet and radiofrequency waves to produce images of internal organs and structures. Altough MRI is a non invasive procedure, a contrast agent may be necessary to better visualize organs or structures. The contrast agent, if needed, will be administered via an injection prior to the examination.

It is vitally important that the patient alert the MRI technologist if they have a pacemaker, prosthesis, surgical clips or any other metal object located within their body.
